Vista won't show fancy side to pirates

But before Vista will display its showiest side, known as Aero, it will run a check to make sure the software was properly purchased. "Those who are not running genuine Windows will not be able to take advantage of the Windows Aero user experience," a Microsoft representative told CNET News.com on Wednesday.

And I think thats a good thing. Wouldn't you consider it unfair paying for the software while others just download off torrent sites without any cost to them? -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

It's a good idea, but remember . . . right now pirates "can't" download WinXP updates from the Microsoft's website.
"Can't" in this case means without spending 5 minutes googling the way to get around the genuine advantage check.

Even that's been patched now though hasn't it?

Microsoft will probably still offer the pirates a convenient "no-WPA necessary " "corporate" version from which to make copies. So don't worry Andre Da Costa, your "business" is safe. --

Pirates like patches ;-)

Are you trying to imply that Andre is doing the copying? If so, I think you have *totally* misread his post!

That's kinda funny, you will get burdened with less gui bloat (and run faster) if you run a pirated version of Vista.
LOL!

Why on earth do you say that? :os Although it's closed source, anybody could do anything to a leaked/pirated copy of Vista and then screw your computer up! At least with Microsoft, there'll generally be an update or a fix waiting for you if you got your copy from then and *then* screwed it up!

You are absolutely right, "closed source" is no security.

Hi Zack! :)
That's just my opinion of the clunky, unnecessary Windows GUI eye candy. I like to run my systems lean and mean.

Yeh I know what you mean there :o) Even with the new Aero Glass, sometimes I switch back to the Classic theme just to try and regain some of the "2003 Server" feeling... makes me feel back at home :o)
